Everyone makes mistakes, including newspaper reporters, editors, and proofreaders. The results are unexpectedly funny, even bordering on the obscene—sometimes you have to wonder if the editor’s mischievous ten-year-old son snuck into his office, and with a devious grin on his face, changed only one letter in the headline just prior to publication. In other cases, it seems that it simply did not occur to the editor or proofreader that additional meanings might be hidden in the wording.

The blunders included in this book are from major newspapers all over the USA. The subject matter ranges from politics to sports to education to community affairs. Even high profile celebrities such as Julia Roberts, Madonna and the late Lady Diana and Etta James can’t escape the blunders.

If you have a keen sense of humor and bloopers make you laugh, this book is for you!

About the Editor

John C. Smiley was born into a family of unemployed circus acrobats who eventually found themselves in lower Manhattan with nothing to do. At the tender age of 32 and armed with seventeen dollars in his pocket, industrious John rented a space in a small corner of a meatpacking company freezer and began to write and publish “serious” fiction. Shivering in his parka, vapor pluming from his lips, he pounded out prose on an ancient Royal typewriter for several years but met with no success. His leather gloves caused him to make lots of mistakes, and he found some of them quite funny. This led him to make a bold move: he decided to leave them in place and market the books as “humor.” The John C. Smiley & Sons Publishing Company was born! Soon John was able to move his office to a much better location, inside the corner of a refrigerator in a slaughterhouse across the street. With the warmer temperatures, the business flourished and grew into the sprawling two-man empire that it is today.

In his spare time, John focuses on expanding his endlessly fascinating collection of beer bottle caps from all over the world.
