Enterprise and Venture Capital is the best-selling guide for people looking to build new businesses around bright ideas, and investors awake to the opportunities offered by new business building. This is the revised and updated fifth edition of the book that is widely regarded as the handbook of the Australian venture capital industry. Setting out in a straightforward and practical way how to put venture capital to work, it discusses the fundamentals of business building, the sources of venture capital available, and the steps involved in obtaining the appropriate financing—including the preparation of a business plan, the choice of a venture capitalist, and negotiations with investors. This book includes advice to investors on how to invest venture capital wisely and concludes with three case studies involving venture capital investment and the lessons learned by both investors and entrepreneurs.

An outstanding read! Clearly written, I devoured this book in three nights, have since re-read it twice and constantly refer to it for reference.
I also bought the book as a gift for the CEO of an Internet Security startup firm. Interestingly, he left it on a plane by mistake and promptly bought a new copy so as not to go without!
Golis outlines the key elements for structuring the V.C. business plan, which takes a bit of effort to get straight but is well worth incorporating his elements in a formal Business Plan.
As a reality check for other buyers, I used this book as a constant reference source in building a submission for Stage 1&2 V.C. raising (which has now successfully been accepted and is in the 'heads of agreement stage' for $500,000 in funds placement).
The book does not present company management issues. Its focus is on the Entrepreneur and Venture Capital raising issues.

This book was given to me by a friend to read, as I was struggling to find angel investors for my new business.
In a world that is otherwise foreign to me (the 'money world'), this book made everything clear: not just how to seek capital, but how to think about my business idea in order to realistically turn it into a fully fledged money-making enterprise. This is a clear window into how the seasoned business people deal with business! I could have sunk a load of money into my idea, without taking it in the direction that it needed to go. This book has given me a road map to get to where I want to be, and has probably saved me from financial and emotional distress. 5 stars to the authors. I'm on Amazon now to buy my own copy...
