I remember when Bill Moyers first interviewed Jon Kabat-Zinn and I have been interested in mindfulness meditation off and on ever since. Five months ago I lost my husband. I also have Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency or "inherited emphysema" and I am on oxygen 24/7. This past summer the stress from both became unbearable. So I bought the book. It is an extremely easy read and the author lulls you into the practice, little by little, from page one. I am now a convert and I plan to take a live course the beginning of next year. I highly recommend this book.

This is a great book and this update does not detract or do more than was originally presented. I am a social worker in a medical setting. This book is great in that first and foremost it provides a reminder, a vision, a focus, a lessons on being in the moment and the power of being in the moment for me. It also provides a rich source to help the people I work with.

If you are looking for a book that helps the focusing on the moment and looking at what is right (as opposed to what is wrong) this is great. While I as well as other may have "diagnosis" it is not in the diagnosis where I will find wellness. Being present, which is needed to see strengths, is where wellness is to be found. This is a great book for being in the moment so the journey to wellness can progress.

Highly recommended for anyone wanting to learn about mindfulness, healing, wellness, and how to cope with pain or other chronic conditions.

I came across this book recently while reading an article in the Mayo Clinic Health Letter on mindfulness and I am so glad that I did. Down to earth, logical information on reducing stress and how to not react to stress in the same (not working for me) manner. I wish that I had known about it years ago; it is that useful! I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to reduce his or her reaction to the stresses in life and life a longer, happier life.
