HERE’S THE NUTS, BOLTS, AND STATISTICS OF IMPLEMENTING SIX SIGMA IN NEW PRODUCT DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING
Fewer defects, optimal design, lower production costs, higher quality products, and increased customer satisfaction – with benefits like those, is it any wonder that premier firms such as GE have adopted the Six Sigma approach to design and manufacturing and thousands of other companies are following suit? This powerful engineering resource provides the detailed methodologies, illustrations, and calculations needed for the implementation and improved utilization of Six Sigma in the electronics, mechanical, aerospace, and medical industries.
Written by an acknowledged Six Sigma quality expert with a flair for clear, succinct writing – and priceless hands-on new product development and manufacturing experience -- Six Sigma for Electronics Design and Manufacturing includes eye-opening real-world electronics and high-technology industry case studies and covers essential issues such as:
* Six Sigma connectivity with world-class quality tools
* Achieving Six Sigma using the manufacturing control systems
* Six Sigma methodology in the design of new systems and products
* Using Six Sigma for product cost estimation and test strategy
* How to use Six Sigma in high- and low-volume products and lifecycles
* Six Sigma in project management, including the supply chain
* Using Design of Experiments (DoE) to achieve Six Sigma goals
* Successful Six Sigma roadmaps
* And much more
For electrical and mechanical engineers, technicians, and managers who need “the numbers” to make Six Sigma work in the complex electronics and high-technology arena, here is a truly indispensable reference.

4.0 out of 5 stars Relevant examples and application, but be careful October 10, 2003
By Alexandre B.
Format:Hardcover
This is a good reference book in case you wonder how electronics manufacturing can be tackled with Six Sigma. It shows interesting examples, insights on the cost structure of a manufactured electronic product, some manufacturability guidelines, good insights on statistics.
But be careful. The title of the book does not seem right to me. It is mostly for electronics manufacturing. Design wise, some good tools are shown such as Design of Experiment, but there is so much more around design for Six Sigma that is not presented here (transfer functions, simulations, predicting the performance of your product).
In summary:
I enjoyed reading this book and it is a good reference. If you are reletively not experienced with Six Sigma, I don't advise you to start right away with this one: it would narrow your scope of improvement areas (even considering the last chapters).

5.0 out of 5 stars A must book for Electronics Professionals June 11, 2002
By Masood Baig
Format:Hardcover
I find the concepts in most 6 Sigma books are not clearly defined and totally connected. It leaves me working hard to figure out the direction and benefits. This book ties it all together in a very simple, unambiguous and non-threatening way. The applications are self explanatory and intuitive and one does not require an extensive knowledge of statistics to understand and apply the principles.
I found this book to be IMMEDIATELY USEFUL and highly recommend it for all Electronics Professionals. It definitely levels the playing field for people who are starting to apply 6 Sigma and reap its benefits.
