The Quickest Way to Get Paid for Your Photos
Magazine editors typically pay $50 to $500 for photos that illustrate their stories. Some pay even more for cover shots. But you don’t need to be a professional photographer to see your images on glossy magazine covers.
If you can learn to take unique photos of your hometown or the places you travel, you can sell them to magazine editors on the side for spare income. You don’t need an expensive camera. You don’t need a lot of training, you only need to know where to look, who to contact, what to say, and how to take the right kinds of photos. And, you’ll find all these instructions in this guide.
Gone are the days when publishers only worked with pros. Today’s editors want real, authentic photographs from unique places around the world… and they’re not worried about who snaps them. Magazine photography is a dream job. There’s nothing more prestigious than seeing your photos on the cover or inside pages of a magazine.
In The Beginner's Guide to Magazine Photography: Professional Secrets for Fast Results, author and professional travel photographer Efrain Padró spells out:
•Beginner mistakes you most certainly want to avoid
•Camera and composition tips to make your photos look more professional
•The right and wrong way to shoot iconic landscapes, buildings and events for magazines
•Which magazines to start with
•Who to contact
•What to say
•And more…
No experience? No problem.
After passing the bar in two different states and practicing law for almost 20 years, Efrain decided that the lawyer’s life wasn’t for him. He moved to Santa Fe with his wife Cathy and took up travel photography as a much more creative and career path.
For income, he sold travel, nature and architectural photographs to magazine editors and taught photography workshops. He was selected by Frommer’s to research and photograph Puerto Rico (his home) for a travel guidebook, and Countryman Press contracted with him to write a photographer’s guide to New Mexico.
Now the author and photographer for The Photographer’s Guide to New Mexico and the lead photographer of Puerto Rico Day by Day, Efrain spends most of his time teaching others how to create great photographs, as he continues to sell his work to a variety of travel publications.
Efrain’s work has recently been featured in Shutterbug Magazine, New Mexico Journey, Puerto Rico Places to Go, and more.
“Efrain is an amazing teacher. I love working with him and our students do, too. He’s kind, generous with his information, and he doesn’t hold anything back. So many professional photographers move on to teaching and then don’t want to tell you how they really follow in their footsteps. Efrain knows the world is big enough for everybody. He pays it forward. Gives every last detail you need to find success or do this on the side for part-time income because he wished someone had done that for him.” – Lori Allen, Director Great Escape Publishing,
