I work in a large corporate organization where a lot of our processes are manual. In my division, we've begun the journey to apply BPM methods and frameworks so I bought this book to bring myself up to speed on process management. This book is both detailed and comprehensive and is perhaps the most complete book I've read so far on BPM. It starts off with a history of the discipline and then gets right into the technical detail. I think the author did this deliberately to show how BPM fits into the wider context of an enterprise business. The 'four pillars' framework in Chapter 4 is excellent and provides very specific advice on how to develop a Center of Excellence within an organization. Highly recommended.

Theodore Panagacos' book "The Ultimate Guide to Business Process Management" is perhaps the perfect starting point for consultants and business managers. It highlights that BPM is not hard, nor difficult to implement. However, it does need executive endorsement and a bit of effort to establish within an organization. I also agree with this assessment. I learned a lot from this book and it's clear Theodore has undertaken a lot of research to distill all the concepts and frameworks of BPM into a single, easy-to-read book. It's very comprehensive but is laid out in such a way that you feel like you're taken on a journey - starting with the strategic level frameworks, before drilling down into the granular level details behind BPM (such as process improvement).

Finally, a BPM book that relates to real business managers and is easy to follow and well structured. Coming from the BPM Consulting and training space, I recommend this book to my clients and classes. The book covers all the business and technology aspects that make up BPM. The frameworks, templates, tools and business examples are easy to relate to if you're a BPM practitioner or new to the BPM concept. The author provides a great understanding of how the concepts can be applied in any organisation. The Establishing a BPM Centre of Excellence approach and methodology is actually very innovative and I have not seen any other author provide such a comprehensive understanding of the topic. I strongly recommend this book as you will definitely gain some great new insights and approaches to BPM. For all those looking for tools and templates, the book also provides and illustrates with real examples a great range of them from process analyst tools, to the developing of operating models for business leaders.

    Well worth the read

I've been a Research Analyst for the past few years and was looking for a book on Business Process Management(BPM) to really understand both the theory and practical application of the methodology. Finding information on BPM has been a little difficult given most sources only cover a very specific theme (such as modelling) but don't cover how it all fits into the bigger picture of a business. The Ultimate Guide to Business Process Management covers everything a practitioner could possibly need to do their job successfully. I found the Career Development Model particularly useful as it gave me insight into the skills and training I need to further my career. This book is exactly as advertised and very detailed. I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who wants a complete understanding of BPM.
